David Prutton is expecting Birmingham City to pick up a huge three points in the Sky Bet Championship’s relegation battle this weekend when they face Sheffield United.

Writing in his prediction column for Sky Sports, Prutton has admitted he is expecting Birmingham to record a 1-0 victory over the Blades this weekend at St Andrew’s.

Garry Monk’s side currently find themselves trying to fight off the threat of relegation in the Championship. The Blues sit narrowly outside the relegation zone, two points clear of Barnsley, who still hold a game in-hand over their rivals.

Despite back-to-back defeats, Prutton is confident that Monk’s side can pick up a huge three points this weekend, against a side who still have top-six ambitions.

Chris Wilder’s Blades are ninth in the Championship table, trailing the top-six by just three points ahead of the final three fixtures of the season.

Last time out, the Blades missed out on a huge opportunity to cut that gap, with Millwall, the side in sixth, holding Wilder’s side to a 1-1 draw at Bramall Lane, despite the South Yorkshire outfit taking the lead through Leon Clarke.

The Verdict

This is fairly big call from Prutton, as three points for Birmingham this weekend would be a huge step towards safety.

The pressure is on both sides for very different reasons, and you’d guess this will be a tight contest at St Andrew’s.

Despite the two clubs fighting very different battles in the coming weeks, the Championship is a tight division and this could really go either way.
