Dean Saunders has urged Derby County manager Frank Lampard to take the Chelsea job if he is offered it, as speculation surrounding his future continues.

Lampard is the favourite to replace manager Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge, with the current Chelsea boss on the verge of leaving the club to join Juventus.

It was reported yesterday that Chelsea have opened talks with Lampard over him becoming their next manager, although the Derby Telegraph have since claimed that those reports are wide of the mark.

Lampard impressed in his first season as a manager last season and was able to guide Derby to the Championship play-off final.

Saunders was a guest on talkSPORT this morning and urged Lampard to take the job if he is offered it, as he may not get another opportunity to manage them in the future.

The Verdict

There's no denying that Lampard did a fantastic job with Derby last season and he could well become the manager at Stamford Bridge one day, but I don't think he's experienced enough to take charge of Chelsea at this stage of his managerial career.

Saunders makes a very good point though - it's not very often you get an opportunity to manage a club like Chelsea and I'm sure Lampard would find it very difficult to turn down an offer from his former club, regardless of whether or not he feels he is ready for the job, after just one season as a manager.

If Chelsea do make an offer for Lampard, I wouldn't be surprised to see him take it and this would be a major blow for Derby, as he will be key to their chances of success next season.
