Transfer Tavern's EFL Insider has stated that they believe that Arsenal's Reiss Nelson would suit a move to Sheffield United this summer.

The 21-year-old currently finds himself on the fringes of the Premier League club's first team at present after graduating from their prolific academy and arguably hasn't been given a fair crack of the whip under his current boss, Mikel Arteta.

Nelson previously spent time out on loan in Germany with Bundesliga side Hoffenheim during the 2018/19 season and racked up a respectable seven goals in 23 games on the continent before returning to North London.

Now the EFL insider has claimed that a move down to the Sky Bet Championship would suit the young winger, with Sheffield United being earmarked as a great potential destination:

"With Sheffield United financially in a good position after the Premier League trip, I think you could see some really good players joining them for a challenge to the top-flight again.

"They're a major club in the Championship, so it wouldn’t surprise me if they make good signings from Premier League and Championship clubs.

"And, a good player would be Reiss Nelson, a right winger at Arsenal who needs good game time now at a good level."

Nelson is currently under contract with the Gunners until the summer of 2023 and hasn't yet expressed a desire to leave the Emirates Stadium.

However a recent report by Sky Sports has suggested that Arsenal would be open to selling Nelson if the right offer came in for the winger this summer.

The Verdict

Nelson has endured a tough time of late with Arsenal and at his age he really needs to be playing some regular football in order to continue his development.

A loan move to the Championship with Sheffield United could well be the making of him and after impressing in Germany a few years ago, he would surely relish the opportunity.

In truth I cannot see him being a regular starter under Arteta moving into next season and it certainly feels like his career with the club is on a knife edge at present.

The Blades are seemingly in the market for a wide player at present and Nelson could be one that they see as a good target if they do indeed look to cast their net wide in search of new recruits.
