Simon Jordan believes that Sheffield Wednesday manager Steve Bruce would be a good appointment for Newcastle United.

Newcastle have been looking for a new manager since Rafa Benitez left the club last month and Sheffield Wednesday boss Bruce is the new favourite to succeed him, after Sky Sports News reporter Keith Downie revealed that he is one of the names under consideration for the role.

Bruce took charge at Hillsborough in February and was able to guide Sheffield Wednesday to a top-half finish in the Championship last season.

The Owls boss is looking to put his own stamp on the squad this summer and has already released several senior players, as he looks to build a team that can challenge for promotion next season.

Former Crystal Palace owner and talkSPORT pundit Jordan has given his take on the situation and believes that Bruce would be a good appointment for Newcastle.

Jordan also hinted that he believes Bruce could be tempted by the chance to manage at St James' Park, despite only taking charge at Hillsborough a few months ago and the fact that he used to manage their rivals Sunderland.

The Verdict

It was always going to be difficult for Newcastle to replace Benitez, but I think Bruce would be a good appointment for them.

He's a vastly experienced manager and he's no stranger to managing in the Premier League. I think he could have what it takes to get the best out of the Newcastle players.

From a Sheffield Wednesday perspective, it will be a major blow for them to lose Bruce. He was able to completely turn the club's fortunes around last season and is starting to build a squad that can challenge for promotion next term.
