Stan Collymore has claimed that Arsenal should learn from what Sheffield United have achieved in the Championship this season.

Unai Emery's side are without a win in their last four Premier League games and are in danger of missing out on the Champions League for the third straight season.

Collymore has claimed that Arsenal do not have the character and mental strength of the Sheffield United side who won automatic promotion to the top flight this season.

The Blades exceeded all expectations in the Championship and just missed out on the league title to Norwich City on the final day.

Collymore has praised Sheffield United and their manager Chris Wilder for what they have been able to achieve in the Championship this season.

"Emery needs to sign two or three players with bottle and character this summer to make up for the flakiness in Arsenal’s dressing room," Collymore wrote in his column for the Daily Mirror (May 7, page 51).

"Emery’s squad is the exact opposite of the one Chris Wilder has had at his disposal this season as his Sheffield United won promotion to the Premier League.

"The Blades, physically and mentally strong, don’t have an iota of Arsenal’s talent or ability.

"What they do have, though, is 10 times the leadership, belief and camaraderie, and that has served them so well in the Championship over the last nine months."

The Verdict

Sheffield United have been phenomenal in the Championship this season and have exceeded all expectations. Wilder and his players deserve tremendous credit for what they have been able to achieve, on a relatively limited budget.

The Blades have proved what you can achieve with the right motivation and team spirit within the squad.

Arsenal are often accused of having players who are not mentally tough enough and Emery's side could certainly learn a thing or two from what Sheffield United have achieved this season.
