Sheffield Wednesday's pursuit of Hull City attacker Mallik Wilks has been one of many twists and turns already, as it remains to be seen if the Owls can agree a deal with the Championship outfit.

Darren Moore's side have seen a £200,000 bid rejected for the former Barnsley man, with the Tigers looking to generate a more handsome fee for the 23-year-old' services.

Wilks was confined to just 20 appearances in the Championship last time out after he was an integral part of the Hull team who won promotion the season before.

Assessing the ongoing situation regarding Wilks, Carlton Palmer told Football League World: "It's a difficult one. I thought this might well have gotten over the line sooner.

"Sheffield Wednesday have reportedly made a bid of 200,000. They've (Hull) turned that down. They've also incidentally just issued a statement saying that he will be there next season.

"He's obviously said that he's keen on the move to Sheffield Wednesdays and he'll be going into the last year of his contract. So, they risk losing him for nothing for next season."

The verdict

Wilks is someone with the potential to light up League One once again if a move to Sheffield Wednesday comes to fruition but it does appear that both clubs are struggling to agree a fee.

With valuations far apart, it remains to be seen if any clubs step in and show interest and if that might lead Sheffield Wednesday into upping their initial offer.

In what seemed to be a fast-progressing transfer move, it is difficult to call whether it can be resolved.

As Palmer outlines, Wilks has now entered the final year of his contract at the MKM Stadium, meaning they are running out of time to generate any sort of fee.
