Middlesbrough’s Jordan Hugill is getting leaner and training really well, according to Tony Pulis.

Pulis moved to sign Hugill on a season-long loan from West Ham United over the course of the summer, but Boro are yet to see the best of the powerful striker.

Hugill has been limited to just 29 minutes of action in the Championship, with Pulis not involving the striker in his starting XI yet in the league.

However, Pulis has been able to offer a positive update on the 26-year-old to Boro’s official website, confirming that Hugill is looking leaner and training well: “Jordan’s better, he looks leaner, he’s trained really and he’s a good lad.”

Pulis had Hugill amongst his substitutes on Saturday against Norwich City, with the on loan striker handed the final 20 minutes, as the Teessiders looked to save their unbeaten start to the season.

In the end, Norwich walked away with a 1-0 victory thanks to Teemu Pukki’s second-half goal.

That defeat saw Boro slide to fourth in the table, but Pulis’ side have a good opportunity to get back to winning ways this week when they welcome Bolton Wanderers to the Riverside Stadium on Wednesday night.

Depending how results go on Tuesday, it could be an opportunity for Boro to return to the top of the Championship table.

The Verdict

This is good news for Boro, as Hugill will have a big role to play over the course of this season.

There’s no doubting the striker’s ability at this level, and with the way Boro play, you’d imagine we will see the best of Hugill.

Clearly his fitness has been a concern for Pulis, but it sounds like progress has been made on that front.
