Tony Pulis is looking to add another forward to his squad this summer following Middlesbrough’s failure to secure an instant return to the Premier League.

Boro finished fifth in the Sky Bet Championship on their return to the second-tier, but were beaten by Aston Villa in the play-off semi-finals, with Pulis’ side suffering a 1-0 aggregate defeat.

A report from the Northern Echo has confirmed that Pulis is looking to add to his forward line this summer, as Boro mount another promotion push during the 2018/19 campaign.

Boro were reliant on the goals of Britt Assombalonga and Patrick Bamford last season, but despite their impressive numbers, Pulis is keen to strengthen in the coming months.

Assombalonga bagged 15 goals in his debut season on Teesside, whilst Bamford was in impressive form under Pulis, scoring 13 goals across all competitions.

That attacking duo are joined by Rudy Gestede at the Riverside Stadium, with the Frenchman battling back from what looked like a season-ending injury to feature in the play-off semi-final.

Ashley Fletcher is another forward on Boro’s books, although reports early in the summer indicated that Pulis would be open to the struggling forward moving out on-loan again ahead of next season.

The Verdict

Boro’s strikeforce is already impressive, and with the numbers Assombalonga and Bamford posted, it might come as a surprise that Pulis is looking to add to his strikeforce.

However, Boro looked out of ideas against Villa in the play-off semi-final, which will have frustrated Pulis.

That is perhaps the reason why he is looking to add to his forward line this summer.

Another high-profile addition could lead to an exit for Fletcher, and, maybe even Gestede.
