It was a disappointing evening for Middlesbrough in the Sky Bet Championship, with their promotion dream ended by Aston Villa last night.

Tony Pulis’ side were held to a goalless draw at Villa Park, with Villa holding on for a 1-0 aggregate victory and progressing through to a Wembley final.

Boro struggled to create much against Villa, who were never really troubled defensively over the two legs.

Pulis opted to place his faith in Britt Assombalonga as his lone striker in both legs, using Patrick Bamford as an option from the bench.

Last night’s decision to replace Assombalonga with Bamford in the second-half was widely criticised by Boro’s supporters, who believed that Pulis should’ve been braver and thrown the two on together, as his side chased the game.
