Tony Pulis’ first game in charge as Middlesbrough boss ended in defeat as Aston Villa sneaked to a 1-0 victory at The Riverside Stadium.
Winger Robert Snodgrass’ back-post header proved the difference in a hotly-contested affair in the north east, with the Scotsman’s strike earning Steve Bruce’s side their first win in over a month.
Pulis has it all to do at Boro if he is to guide the former Premier League side back into the playoff places, with former boss Garry Monk failing to instill a sense of squad unity during his tenure despite a summer of big-spending.
Blessed with a wealth of experience following spells at Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion, Pulis is a no-nonsense manager who will not bow to egos, and perhaps this is the issue that exists in Boro’s star-studded squad.
Saturday’s defeat was testament to the task Pulis faces, and a tough trip to Preston North End tomorrow will do the Welshman no favours.
Fans took to Twitter to have their say on the club’s latest promotion set-back…
Should have gone for a young and eager manager someone who has more than 1 tactic and who would be allowed time to work under a decent chairman, Pulis crys of desperation! @_Ando____

I agree… This season is knackered now anyway… Should have got someone better and aimed at getting it sorted for next season… This season has been a total let down

Idk why he changed a winning team. Didn’t like the idea of Pulis at all

It’s unbelievable how many fans are writing pulls off as a disaster after one game. Give the man some time and see if results improve. If they don’t, THEN judge him.

Pulis – wrong appointment for me , I’ve said it all along, result doesn’t suprise me , were on a very slippery slope at the min , after all the pre season hype and excitement we are poor really poor !! Pulis has a big job on his hands , but he’s not the long term answer for me

How is this all Pulis’ fault? The guy hasn’t been in the job a week. He said he needed time to assess players over these games. A bad result yes, but judge him at the end of the season #utb
