Tony Pulis will not be considered for the vacant managerial position at Cardiff City, whilst former Bluebirds striker Craig Bellamy has ruled himself out of the running for the job.

Cardiff are without a manager since the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Thursday.

Later that day Bellamy, 35, told BT Sport that he would not take the job if he was offered it.

"Look, I had the opportunity at Christmas to do it when Malky [Mackay] left," he said.

"They offered it to me then; whether it was part-time or not I didn't really give them a chance to get into so much of a conversation.

"It was that simple, I'm not right for the club at this present moment.

"They need to go in a different direction and the club's not right for me at this present moment."

Bellamy joined Cardiff on loan in 2010 from Manchester City, and then returned for a permanent spell in 2012, making a combined total of 90 appearances. He retired at the end of last season, saying how his body  "couldn't take it anymore."

Former Crystal Palace boss Tony Pulis was one of the favoruites to be appointed at Cardiff, but the BBC has since learned that he will not be considered by owner Vincent Tan.

Pulis would have been a favourable choice amongst fans, but it seems that he does not appeal to Tan and is out of the running.

Former City boss Dave Jones is also not being considered, whilst Dundee United manager Paul Hartley has already rejected an approach from Cardiff to take over the reigns.

It is believed that Tan would prefer to appoint somebody in a head-coach role, rather than a managerial position. This approach is similar to the one adopted by Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino, and would allow Tan to have full control over non-playing matters such as contracts and transfers.

It is also understood that he is reluctant to pay a big compenstation fee for a manager already employed, which would mean that he will most likely opt for somebody who is not currently in a job.

Despite being considered favourites to win the title this season, Cardiff sit in 17th place in the Championship after winning only two of their first seven games.

They travel to Derby on Saturday and will look to end a winless run of four games against a Rams side who sit one point outside of the play-offs.
