Sheffield United have announced that veteran striker Leon Clarke has left the club to join Wigan Athletic on loan until the end of the season.

The 33-year-old struggled for game time this season with Chris Wilder's side, and was pushed further down the pecking order when Gary Madine arrived in this month's transfer window.

He has made nine league starts this season which will be frustrating for the impressive forward, who'll be keen to show Wilder what he's missing this season.

Clarke's arrival from Bury in 2016 was met with a mixed reaction, as he had previously played for Sheffield Wednesday, but he soon established himself as a firm fans favourite.

The striker netted 19 goals last season for the Blades as they missed out on a top six finish in the Championship, and netted a total of 31 goals in 91 appearances in his time at the club.

It's safe to say that he will be missed at Sheffield United judging by the reaction to his departure.
