Plymouth Argyle were involved in a pulsating cup tie against Championship side Reading last night, ending up on the wrong side of a 4-2 defeat at Home Park.

They led twice, Ryan Taylor having his 22nd-minute  strike cancelled out ten minutes before half time by Josh Barrett. After the interval, Jose Baxter gave the Pilgrims the lead for the second time in the game.

Despite a spirited and adventurous performance, the superior fitness of the Championship team came to the fore. Barrett levelled once more with 18 minutes to go, leaving the scores poised delicately at 2-2.

Yakou Meite was the man to break their strong resistance in the end, his 87th-minute penalty effectively ending the game, before he bagged another late on to send Ryan Lowe's side out of the competition.

There was no shame in defeat though, Plymouth had gone for the win with an attacking 3-1-4-2 formation and could easily have caused an upset. They're now set to focus on the league, where immediate promotion into the third-tier is the priority.

Their fans were certainly satisfied with their endeavour last night, despite the defeat, as you can see from their social media reaction below.
