The turmoil just keeps on coming at Sunderland and you wonder what the fans would do with themselves if they didn't have their football club in such a mess.

Indeed, the Black Cats have been in perpetual trouble for the last few years and things seem to have gone up a gear with them once again managerless and without a home win in 2017. They're in a relegation battle, too, and so they need to sort things out quickly.

Surely, if they can get some momentum going, the club is big enough to be an exciting prospect for a new manager to take on and it remains to be seen if the club can sell itself to a new boss. Who that is, remains to be seen, of course, but the bookies have opened their markets on it and it looks as though Aitor Karanka is one of the favourites.

Indeed, with Sky Bet he is the 5/2 front-runner at the moment ahead of the likes of Kevin Phillips and Peter Reid and now it remains to be seen whether or not the Black Cats get one of these names in or go for someone else.

The Verdict

The men from the Stadium of Light are still in trouble despite this season being the one that was meant to yield a fresh start.

The Grayson era was ill-fated and now they are looking for another new manager as the club battles relegation. Karanka would be good, but perhaps a club icon like Phillips would be ideal as he knows what Sunderland means to the fans.
