Over the past two seasons, under the management of Carlos Carvalhal and with the support of Dejphon Chansiri, Sheffield Wednesday have built a squad that is now one of the strongest in the entirety of the Championship.

However, one position that emerged as an issue towards the end of last season was the left-back position. With Daniel Pudil and Adam Reach struggling to replicate the defensive consistency of the rest of the back four, the left-back position was seen somewhat as a weak link.

This summer, Carlos Carvalhal may look to address the full-back position and further strengthen it before the South Yorkshire side mounts their bid for automatic promotion next season.

One player who could fit perfectly at Sheffield Wednesday is the Belgian full-back Sebastien Pocognoli. After joining West Bromwich Albion from Hannover 96, the 29-year-old defender struggled for opportunities and playing time at the Premier League club.

Instead, he joined Brighton & Hove Albion on loan last season, the Belgian defender played a crucial role in their promotion to the Premier League as he provided adequate cover for Gaetan Bong, who missed a large chunk of the season due to injury.

Last season, Sebastien Pocognoli proved that he was one of the most dependable full-backs in the Championship, with experience of gaining promotion to the Premier League,¬†he would be a welcome addition to the South Yorkshire side’s squad.

Having now been released by West Brom, Sebastien Pocognoli could be the perfect solution to a position that has been increasingly giving Carlos Carvalhal headaches towards the end of last season.

Sheffield Wednesday fans, would you like to see Sebastien Pocognoli join your side? Do you think he would be an astute signing for Carlos Carvalhal to make? Would he be an improvement on your current left-back options? Let us hear your thoughts and opinions in the comment section below!
