Wolverhampton Wanderers have started their season in excellent fashion, recording two wins from their opening two fixtures ahead tonight’s game at Hull City.

The match up with the Tigers could be the Molineux’s outfit’s biggest challenge yet, but boss Nuno Santo will go into the game oozing with confidence, and will expect his side to emerge from the game with yet another three points to add to the tally.

It is no secret that the club has spent big this summer to acquire a whole host of new faces, but there is an indication that at least one more signing can be expected before the transfer window slams shut next month.

Santo needs to add another striker to his squad, and one man to be strongly linked is Sheffield Wednesday’s record signing, Jordan Rhodes.

The 27-year-old only signed for the Owls last month on a permanent basis following a loan spell the season before, but could be on his way again as Santo searches for his new front man.

Wednesday fans will scoff at their promotion rivals interest in the player however, and would seriously question the management team if a proven Championship scorer were to be sold to such a close rival.

However, with Wednesday already boasting one of the most dangerous arsenal’s of attacking talent in the division, could allowing Rhodes to move on actually be within the best interests of the club?

The south Yorkshire side look extremely short at the back, and the funds acquired from the sale of Rhodes would allow boss Carlos Carvalhal to strengthen an area which has looked vulnerable at times this season.

To make matters worse, both Glenn Loovens and Sam Hutchinson were carted off in the disappointing home draw with QPR, and the back line is beginning to look extremely threadbare at Hillsborough.

Wednesday have the men to get by without Rhodes, and the likes of Sam Winnall, who is a wonderful striker deprived of opportunities in the presence of Rhodes, would surely excel should he be given a more prominent role.

The Owls defensive frailties could cost them promotion this season, and sacrificing Jordan Rhodes to bolster the back line could be the gamble Carvalhal must take to secure a top two berth this season.

What do you think, Wednesday fans? Is Rhodes dispensable?
