Reading have endured a miserable start to the Championship season with their 1-0 defeat to Bristol City over the weekend ensuring they are entering the international break sitting in the relegation zone.

Jose Gomes worked wonders in the second half of last season to keep his Royals side afloat in the second tier, but his players have not been able build on this achievement and now look set for another relegation battle this term.

Reading's poor start to the campaign has led to reports that Gomes could be set to leave the club, with his side losing seven league games so far this term and having failed to win since a 2-0 victory over Huddersfield in August.

This poor record has occurred despite Reading having sealed a number of high-profile signings over the summer, with the likes of Rafael Cabral, Pele and Ovie Ejaria among those arriving at the Madejski Stadium during a promising off-season.

The Royals also invested over £10million in a new strike force this campaign, with the arrivals Lucas Joao and George Puscas from Sheffield Wednesday and Inter Milan respectively providing cause for much excitement among the club's supporters.

Puscas' arrival was particularly popular as Reading fans had initial high hopes for a player who had scored four goals in four appearances for Romania at the European Under-21 Championships over the summer.

In our latest FLW Rewind, we look back at the day Puscas joined the Royals...

There was understandably widespread optimism among Reading fans when Puscas arrived at the club on transfer deadline day, but he has not yet made the impact that many people thought he would.

The 23-year-old has so far made 12 appearances for the club but has only managed to score three goals, with the first of these coming in an EFL Cup tie against Wycombe back in August before a brace against Cardiff the following weekend.

Puscas has since been misfiring for the Royals. He has squandered a number of golden chances during Reading's defeats in recent weeks, while four of his last five starts for the club have ended in defeat for Gomes' side.

Reading fans have seen some glimpses of Puscas' quality so far, but it is clear that he now needs to find the net in order to restore his confidence and help lead his side towards an improved run of form.

The 23-year-old signed a five-year deal at the Madejski Stadium, so he has plenty of time to establish himself as a key player for the club. Reading fans will just be hoping he manages to achieve this sooner rather than later.
