Leeds United have started the Sky Bet Championship season magnificently, with Thomas Christiansen’s side looking like they could be in contention for a return to the Premier League later in the campaign.

Last season, under Garry Monk, Leeds went close, mainly due to the 27 goals Chris Wood scored in the Championship.

However, the New Zealand international has since departed, and Leeds have not looked back, still posing an attacking threat without last season’s top scorer.

Key to that transition has been Pierre-Michel Lasogga, who has been brought in as Wood’s replacement.

Lasogga has three goals and two assists to his name from his first month in the Championship, and his parent-club, Hamburg, are monitoring the 25-year-old’s progress.

Reports this week have told us that Hamburg could hand Lasogga a route back into their plans if he continues to impress on-loan at Elland Road.

Here at FLW, we have taken a look TWO replacements Leeds could turn to if Lasogga does not return next summer…

Jay-Roy Grot

Grot could potentially be Leeds’ long-term number nine, after the Whites moved to sign the 19-year-old Dutchman late in the summer transfer window.

The striker has a big physical presence, and his physique and style are well suited to English football.

Working with Lasogga this year will help Grot improve, and if he can gain a good understanding of English football this season, he has more than enough potential to step up in the coming years.

Tomer Hemed

Hemed is an excellent striker, who has done well for Brighton and Hove Albion during his time on the south coast.

The 30-year-old has scored 30 league goals for the Seagulls in 65 starts, and is showing in the Premier League that he has the qualities to impress at a higher level – already scoring two top-flight goals.

Whether Leeds find themselves in the Championship or Premier League next season, bringing Hemed to Elland Road could turn into a shrewd piece of business in the short-term.
