Sheffield Wednesday have been handed a welcome boost ahead of their clash with Blackburn Rovers this weekend.

The Owls had been without Julian Borner for their draw with Leeds United on Saturday, as the centre-back picked up an injury in the warm-up.

Borner has been hugely impressive for Sheffield Wednesday this season, and has evidently wasted no time in adjusting to his new surroundings at Hillsborough.

In a pre-match press conference ahead of their game with Blackburn, Garry Monk revealed that Borner has been back in training, and has had no negative reaction to his previous injury.

Monk also provided an update on Massimo Luongo, with the Owls boss revealing that the midfielder is expected to train with the first team on Friday, and could be in line to feature against Tony Mowbray's men.

David Bates is set to make his return to training next week as well, which will add to the competition for places in Monk's squad heading towards the festive period.

Sheffield Wednesday have started this year's league campaign strongly and currently sit fifth in the Championship table heading into this weekend.

Garry Monk has been impressive in charge of the Owls, and will be targeting a top-six finish after such a strong start to this season.

It won't be an easy game for Sheffield Wednesday by any stretch of the imagination on Saturday though, with Blackburn looking to get back to winning-ways as soon as possible after a slight dip in their league form in recent weeks.

The Verdict:

This will be a huge boost for Sheffield Wednesday heading into the game.

Borner has been one of their standout players so far this season, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him come straight back into the starting XI if he is deemed fit enough to start by Monk.

Sam Hutchinson did a good job in filling in for the central defender against Leeds, but I can't see Monk not staring Borner over him this weekend.

Luongo's fitness update will also be a real positive for the Owls heading into what could be a season-defining festive period.
