This point in the season is always a good time to assess how different clubs in the Championship are doing and Sheffield Wednesday would probably give themselves a 6/10 so far.

Indeed, the Owls will be looking for another play-off finish this season but they have only started steadily and there is certainly room for improvement.

As the old saying goes, though, the Championship is a marathon, not a sprint, and Wednesday's win over Leeds before the break highlighted the quality they have when they get it all hooked up.

And, in another positive bit of news over this international break, it appears as though the squad is going to be bolstered sooner rather than later by the return of Glenn Loovens in particular.

Indeed, as per Wednesday Youth on Twitter, Glenn Loovens, Liam Palmer and Morgan Fox are all in the U23 Owls side to take on Barnsley this afternoon:

For sure, then, it'll be interesting to see how the senior stars do amongst the U23 squad with them now underway against the Tykes and, if they come through unscathed, a return to the first team shouldn't be too far away.

The Verdict

The return of Loovens is very important for the squad thanks to his experience in the middle of defence.

Indeed, he's likely going to be the one monitored most closely of all to assess his fitness whilst the younger stars will also be looking to impress.
