Wolves extended their lead at the top of the Championship to six points with a resounding 3-0 win against Leeds United last night.

Nuno Espirito Santo's men went into the fixture on the back of a three-game winless run and Cardiff City had closed the gap at the top to just three points.

That, combined with Aston Villa's form, meant some were wondering if the league leaders position was under threat.

However, they responded in magnificent fashion at Elland Road last night, with Romain Saiss, Willy Boly and Benik Afobe getting the goals.

The first two goals came courtesy of set-pieces, with Barry Douglas once again providing quality deliveries.

It added to what was a real strong performance from the Scotsman, who certainly impressed Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay.

The ex-Konyaspor man has often gone under the radar given the calibre of some of his teammates but he has played a key role in Wolves' fine season.

The assist for the Saiss goal means he now has 11 for the season, as many as anyone in the division.

The Verdict

Santo's side were extremely impressive last night and thoroughly deserved the three points. And, for all the free-flowing football that they did play, the key goals came from Douglas.

He is a real asset for the team as he has so much quality on the ball and as Phil Hay says, he is an outlet for the side going forward.

In the 3-4-3 formation both he and Matt Doherty are often the spare men and have given Wolves a real threat down the flanks.
