Sunderland have labelled their clash with Plymouth Argyle as a retro day, with some special marketing and public relations being set up for the game.

With both towns being ports they've labelled it as 'battleships', with Argyle 'sailing into the Port of Sunderland' and that they need 'all hands on deck' in their promotion push.

It won't be an easy clash, Derek Adams' side have been in good form of late, but it isn't the opponents that have got pulses racing, nor the rather nautical theme.

Fans have been excited by the emergence of the old club badge, or a version of it. They changed their logo in 1997 when they left Roker Park, but as it's made an appearance on the promotional material, fans have got emotional about days gone by.

It seems there's a certain demand for the current logo to be changed back to the old one, with some supporters suggesting anything retro is almost a license to print money. They're wanting to hark back to the days of their old shirt sponsors, Vaux, as well as the old logo.

If the Black Cats' owners heeded the advice of these fans on Twitter, they might be able to produce a must-have shirt for next season, whether they're still in League One or back in the Championship.
