Milwall goalkeeper Bart Bialkowski has labelled Scott Malone "Prime Roberto Carlos" after his sensational long-range strike helped the Lions beat Preston North End yesterday.

Gary Rowett's side went behind in just the 12th minute when Ched Evans thrashed a 20-yard volley into the bottom corner but Malone produced a suitably dazzling response to pull his side level.

The left wing-back picked up the ball just inside the Preston half and drove forward before unleashing a ferocious strike into the top corner.

Mason Bennett's 86th-minute winner was much less glamourous but proved decisive as Millwall claimed all three points at The Den.

Understandably, spirits appear high among the Lions squad after they got back to winning ways last night and Bialkowski took to Twitter this morning to draw comparisons between his teammate and a legend of the game.

He may not quite have reached the levels of the former Brazil and Real Madrid defender but Malone is having an excellent season for Millwall.

The Derby loanee has scored five times since moving to the south London club in the summer, meaning only Jed Wallace (7) has scored more for them this term.

It also makes him the highest-scoring left-back in the Championship in 2020/21, while Cardiff City's Sean Morrison (5) is the only defender to find the net more times.

The Verdict

Millwall fans will love to see Bialkowski drawing links between Malone and "Prime Roberto Carlos", not least because it shows the togetherness in the squad.

The defender has been fantastic since joining on loan from Derby and his wonderstrike last night is a goal that the Brazilian legend would have been proud of.

Malone's goalscoring record is admirable but the fact that Wallace is the only Millwall player to outscore him this term highlights a bigger issue at the club – their lack of a consistent goalscoring number nine.
