Liverpool have placed a £23 million price tag on Liverpool defender Joe Gomez, as per a report from the Daily Express.

Anfield Watch reporter Graeme Bailey credited the Championship leaders with an interest in the 24-year-old earlier in the week, with the Whites joining the likes of West Ham and Everton who are currently monitoring his situation at Liverpool.

In his career with the Reds thus far, his progression has been halted by injuries, with a knee tendon issue disrupting the last campaign.

Since then, he has struggled to pave a way back into first-team contention, with the arrival of Ibrahima Konate pushing him down the pecking order to fourth-choice central defender at Anfield.

Bailey's report suggests that Gomez is concerned about his future with the Premier League giants, that is despite Jurgen Klopp still being a big fan.

Fulham are already preparing for the Premier League it would seem, with the Whites 11 points clear at the top of the Championship.

The verdict

Gomez is exactly the type of signing that would bolster Fulham's chances of surviving the Premier League drop next season, the ultimate ambition after the previous season's immediate relegation.

Looking at their current defensive options, Tosin Adarabioyo is someone that could readapt to the rigours of top-tier football, however, it remains to be seen if Tim Ream could do the same.

Gomez is an athletic option who has racked up some excellent experience in England's top-flight, whilst he is also someone who would suit Fulham's quick build-up play, should they bring that approach into the Premier League.

The young defender perhaps needs a move to revitalise his career, with a move to the Cottagers perhaps being a positive step in trying to claw his way back into the England set up.
