Sky Bet Championship side Preston North End have elected to fine strikers Jermaine Beckford and Eoin Doyle after a fight broke out between the duo in the 2-1 defeat against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, it was revealed in a statement on the official website.
In the 90th minute of Preston North End’s defeat against Sheffield Wednesday, an unusual off the ball incident saw Preston North End duo Jermaine Beckford and Eoin Doyle come to blows with each other.
Beckford was unhappy with Eoin Doyle’s decision making as he opted not to play the pass into his path which resulted in the strike partners squaring up to one and other.
Referee Scott Duncan chose to send the two strikers off.
In a heated encounter, Sheffield Wednesday’s diminutive midfielder Fernando Forestieri was also sent off for an off the ball incident.
The early aftermath of this unusual incident has resulted in Beckford and Doyle issuing a statement of apology and the club has confirmed that it will appeal the duo’s suspension.
Preston North End have also confirmed that the fines that Beckford and Doyle will pay will refund the Preston North End fans that travelled to Hillsborough.
