Preston set to see off Premier League teams and Celtic to sign striker

Preston North End are set to sign 17-year-old Hartlepool striker Connor Simpson, according to TEAMTalk.

Scottish giants Celtic were among the clubs tracking the progress of the young target man, who was also attracting interest from the Premier League.

Merseyside rivals Liverpool and Everton as well as West Ham United and Newcastle were all tracking the frontman, who has been likened to Andy Carroll.

Maybe there is something in that comparison, seeing as three of the clubs the hitman has played for – Liverpool, Newcastle and current club West Ham were aware of his progress – but Preston look set to win the race.

The Verdict

It is a sign of how well Preston are doing in the Championship that they are attracting the eye of players who have drawn the attention of Premier League clubs.

He is a prospect and definitely one for the future at 17 with just one goal this season under his belt but you would think his value is only going to go up so getting him through the door early is a shrewd move.
