Preston North End will be targeting two goalkeepers in the transfer market this summer.

As per the Lancashire Post, the Lilywhites had considered bringing in three senior goalkeepers considering they are starting from scratch in the department, but academy keeper James Pradic is set to be given the number three role at the club.

With Connor Ripley and Matthew Hudson set to be released, and Daniel Iversen returning to Leicester following his Deepdale loan, there have been a number of goalkeepers linked with Ryan Lowe's side ahead of the summer transfer window opening this Friday.

The likes of Benjamin Siegrist, Gavin Bazunu, Karl Darlow and Matt Ingram have all been mentioned with regards to a potential move to Lancashire ahead of the Championship season.

Out of those names, though, it would appear that Manchester City's Gavin Bazunu and Newcastle United's Karl Darlow are the frontrunners considering that the Lancashire Post report that North End want their number one next season to be a loanee from the Premier League.

Darlow is currently the number two at Newcastle United and made eight Premier League appearances in 2021/22.

Bazunu, meanwhile, spent the 2021/22 campaign on loan in League One at Portsmouth, where he kept an impressive 17 clean sheets.

Southampton are rumoured to be closing in on a permanent deal for the 20-year-old, though. Whether or not Manchester City are willing to sell permanently remains to be seen.

The Verdict

Goalkeeping additions at Deepdale are inevitable this summer, but it is interesting to hear they are set to give academy prospect James Pradic the number three role.

That could potentially leave Ryan Lowe's side looking light in-between the sticks should their first or second choice keeper pick up an injury.

Who those two goalkeepers are remains to be seen, but the club must start to move quickly, with them potentially set to miss out on Gavin Bazunu and Benjamin Siegrist already.

Middlesbrough and West Brom have been credited with an interest in Karl Darlow, too, so that could be another one that slips away from Preston if they do not start to make their moves.
