Preston North End transfer update emerges on Premier League player amid Coventry City and MK Dons interest

Championship side Preston North End have backed out of the race to recruit Crystal Palace full-back Tayo Adaramola, according to a Twitter update from journalist Alan Nixon.

The Republic of Ireland youth international is just one of several promising players that could be in line for a loan move away – and it was Coventry City’s interest that was first reported earlier this summer with Luke Plange also believed to have been on their radar.

Ian Maatsen’s departure has left a considerable void on the left-hand side, with Jake Bidwell clearly in need of competition for a starting spot at wing-back and the Sky Blues yet to address this area.

What year were PNE officially founded?

They have since been joined by League One side MK Dons and league rivals Preston North End, with the former potentially able to match or exceed offers made by the Sky Blues and the Lilywhites after selling Harry Darling and Scott Twine for seven-figure fees.

Liam Manning’s side will also be boosted by this latest update that the Lilywhites are no longer interested in pursuing a move for the 18-year-old, who could still be in line to play EFL football for the first time during this upcoming season.

Although it’s currently unclear why they have decided to pull out, Robbie Brady did link up with Lowe’s side earlier this month as another potential option on the left.

The Verdict:

Brady could be a good option to have at Deepdale as someone who’s far more experienced than the 18-year-old – but it remains to be seen whether he can remain fit if Lowe is intending to have him in the starting lineup.

In fairness, you can be more flexible with who you choose when operating with a wing-back decision because of the fewer defensive responsibilities, so Lowe can put a square peg in a round hole if needed.

Adaramola probably would have enjoyed playing as a wing-back under a progressive, young coach, so the player may be slightly gutted as he looks set to miss out on this potential move.

However, Coventry would be another good option and would also play wing-back there if Mark Robins continues to operate with a back three.

But if it means he will get more time on the pitch if he takes the step down to League One, then so be it, because Brennan Johnson enjoyed great success at Lincoln City during the 2020/21 campaign and that gave him the springboard to go on and achieve greater things.
