Despite a deal being reportedly close, Matthew Olosunde may not end up being a Preston North End player as the club have other targets also in the pipeline, according to LancsLive.

The 23-year-old USA international turned down the chance to remain at Rotherham United after two years, and links soon emerged with a move to Deepdale this summer.

North End were reported to be closing in on Olosunde's signature a few days ago, but it seems there are more options to choose from than first thought.

George Hodgson of LancsLive believes that the club have deals on the table for two other right-back options beside Olosunde as they look to finally replace Darnell Fisher, who signed for Middlesbrough in January.

And unlike Olosunde, who would only require a compensation fee due to his contract situation, at least one of the other two options are contracted to their current clubs, meaning that North End would have to fork out a transfer fee.

Both unnamed players though are said to be keen on joining North End though, so there could be a big decision to make for Peter Ridsdale and the transfer team this coming week.

The Verdict

North End fans have been expecting confirmation of Olosunde's deal for days, so this has thrown a bit of a spanner in the works.

The former Manchester United man seems like an ideal fit for PNE - he's at an age where he can still develop, he's good at getting forward with the ball and if Frankie McAvoy is opting to use a 3-5-2 formation that will be very important.

The fact that at least one of the other two right-back options though are contracted to a club is interesting in the sense that North End are seemingly prepared to pay a fee for someone, and Olosunde's deal must not be as close as first thought if the club are still exploring other options.

It could be an interesting few days ahead at Deepdale as PNE look to finally get a right-back over the line - but they must hurry as Olosunde could go elsewhere should the club not get a move on.
