Sports journalist Graeme Bailey has revealed that Preston’s in demand striker Jordan Hugill is understood to have handed in a transfer request amidst interest from a host of Championship clubs.

The 25-year-old had an ok campaign during the 2016/17 season scoring 13 times and providing three assists in all competitions.

Reading and Wolves have emerged as the front runners for the Englishman’s signature with both sides looking to bolster their attacking options.

Wolverhampton seems the more likely destination given that they sit three places above Preston North End and have been looking good under new manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

With the summer transfer window concluding at midnight on Thursday, Preston will surely be looking to offload the want away forward to give themselves enough time to find a replacement.

The Verdict

Here at FLW, we’re not sure that Jordan Hugill has done enough to warrant handing in a transfer request at Preston.

13 goals in 47 appearances last season is ok, but nothing more than that.

We definitely think that both Reading and Wolves could do a lot better in their hunt for a striker, especially Wolves with Jorge Mendes pulling the strings.

No fee has been discussed in these rumours but Preston will likely want to squeeze as much as they can out of any potential deal given how close it is to the deadline.

Not a great move for either buying side.
