Preston North End’s Aiden McGeady has been praised by Republic of Ireland assistant Roy Keane for going in search of regular games in the Sky Bet Championship, reports the Lancashire Evening Post.

Simon Grayson brought McGeady to Deepdale from Premier League side Everton during the summer transfer window, with the Irish winger impressing for Preston across this season.

The 30-year old has scored five goals in his 26 Championship appearances, helping Grayson’s side to ninth in the table and just five-points outside the Play-Offs.

McGeady’s performances have earned him another international call-up, and Ireland’s assistant manager, Keane, has praised the winger for going in search of regular football, he said:

“I’m delighted for him. We make the point to all the players who haven’t been playing that it would be good to go and get some games.

“Aiden has done that at Preston, I have seen him there a couple of times, so have some of the other staff.

“He looks sharper, he has added some goals to his game.

“It has worked out really well for Preston and Aiden.”

Ireland face Wales and Iceland in the coming week, where McGeady will be hopeful of adding to his 86 international caps, before returning to Preston.

Following this week’s international break, North End will begin their Championship run-in with clashes against Nottingham Forest and Bristol City, as Grayson’s side look to narrow the gap to the top-six.
