Preston North End have secured the service of goalkeeper Declan Rudd on a new contract.

Rudd has signed a three-year deal with North End, which ties him down until the summer of 2023.

The goalkeeper was set to see his deal at Deepdale expire in the coming summer, but now he’s committed his long-term future to Alex Neil’s side.

In a brief statement on the club’s official website, Rudd said: “It is something we have been talking about for quite a while. My wife and I both decided that I am happy at Preston North End and it is the perfect thing to do.”

So far this season, Rudd has made 37 Championship appearances, with the 29-year-old a mainstay in goal for Neil as his side chase play-off football.

The season is, of course, postponed due to the outbreak of coronavirus, but when things resume, North End are sitting sixth in the table and on course to secure play-off football in the remaining nine games of the season.

The Verdict

This is a good piece of business for North End, with Rudd an ever-present for Neil.

The fact that he’s so reliable and has conceded only 45 goals this season makes him a solid option at this level, with North End fans surely delighted to see the club make this move.

Now, focus can go onto the remaining nine games and Preston securing play-off football.
