Calum Woods has had an interesting career trajectory since leaving Preston North End in January 2019.

Now 34, he is plying his trade in the Welsh top-flight at Bala Town seemingly winding down his career in professional football.

The right back signed for Bradford City immediately after the Lilywhites and made just six appearances for the Bantams before joining Tranmere Rovers in the summer of 2019. Woods made 16 appearances for the Super White Army as they were controversially relegated to League Two as the third tier season was curtailed.

The Liverpool-born right back then fell into non-league to sign for FC United of Manchester for a couple of months before the Indian Super League came calling. Woods spent the first half of 2021 with East Bengal in the Indian top-flight, the team finished in ninth place.

His Indian adventure was brief and Woods came back to the United Kingdom and signed for Bala Town in the summer of 2021. At 34, just over two years after leaving North End Woods probably would not have expected to be playing in the Welsh top-flight following a spell in the Indian Super League but that is how it has panned out.

Woods' best spell in English football was an extended one as a dependable full back for both Huddersfield Town and Preston between 2011 and 2019, where he will be fondly remembered for playing a part in the clubs earning promotion via the League One play-offs.
