Preston North End manager Alex Neil wants to add three new faces to his squad in the upcoming January transfer window, according to The Lancashire Evening Post.

Having already landed his first signing of the January transfer window before it has even opened, Neil now wants to press ahead and wrap his deals up early in the window.

Preston North End have acted quickly to sign Louis Moult from Motherwell and they are looking for three more additions to their squad in January.

He also wants to keep hold of Jordan Hugill.

The star striker has been attracting interest from Bristol City lately after seeing a transfer request rejected in the summer.

With a further nine goals this season, the 25-year-old's stock has risen and he is likely to be attracting more interest from Championship clubs in January.

But Preston want to hold firm and keep him.

Alex Neil said: “There have been discussions on-going about a variety of different things we’re trying to do

"We want to get our work done as early as we can.

"We don’t want to hang on until the end of the window.

“However as the window winds down or ramps up, whichever way you want to put it, players become available that maybe weren’t available at the start of the window."

The Verdict

The January transfer window is one of the most difficult to negotiate because clubs are often holding out for big transfer fees.

Preston are in a position from which they can launch a genuine promotion bid so this means that this upcoming window is vital.

If they are able to keep their stars and add a couple of other names to their squad, they could be right up there but if they lose Hugill, for example, they may drop into mid-table.
