Championship outfit Preston North End are on the verge of signing Tottenham Hotspur forward Troy Parrott on a season-long loan deal, according to the Deepdale Digest.

The 20-year-old had previously been in South Korea on tour with Antonio Conte's side earlier this summer, with the Irishman given the chance to force his way into Antonio Conte's plans in the English capital.

However, with a considerable number of forward options at the Italian's disposal already and Richarlison joining from Everton, the striker always looked likely to head out on loan once more following the expiration of his temporary spell at MK Dons.

Recording 10 goals and seven assists in 47 appearances for Liam Manning's side during the 2021/22 campaign, there was certainly no shortage of interest in his signature with Middlesbrough, Queens Park Rangers and Sunderland all believed to be keen to lure him away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the time being.

With this, he looked set to take the step up to the second tier and will now do so with the Lilywhites, according to this latest report from the Deepdale Digest.

Manager Ryan Lowe is keen on signing two forwards this summer with Cameron Archer's return to Aston Villa creating a huge void up top - and Parrott is now on the verge of arriving as a potential replacement for the England youth international.

The Verdict:

This is a good move for Parrott because there's every chance he will be a starter alongside Emil Riis during 2022/23, potentially keeping Ched Evans and Sean Maguire out of the starting lineup.

They don't have a huge number of options up top at this stage, so the Irishman has a real chance of winning regular minutes at Deepdale if he can perform how he did in Buckinghamshire.

Some would argue he would have had a better chance of fighting for promotion with Boro - but Chris Wilder has plenty of funds to spend after the sale of Djed Spence and this could easily mean as many as three forwards arrive at the Riverside between now and the end of the window.

He may not be guaranteed regular minutes on Teesside because of that - and this is probably why he would be well served making the move to Lancashire where he can operate under an exciting manager and have a chance of being heavily involved.

If he is to be involved in Tottenham's first team during the 2023/24 campaign and beyond, he needs to stand out as a key player in the second tier at the very least and he will only be able to do this with regular playing minutes under his belt.
