Preston looking to Manchester City man as they eye Robinson replacement

Preston North End could be set to make a move on Manchester City as they look for an immediate replacement for Callum Robinson.

Alex Neil is keen to quickly address the loss of Robinson, who joined Sheffield United in mid-week, and according to Alan Nixon, he could make a move for City winger Brandon Barker.

Barker has already spent a spell with the Lilywhites and at 22, is at the stage in his career where he might well need to move away from the Etihad in order to fulfil his potential and finally kick on in his young career.

With first-team opportunities bound to be at a premium under Pep Guardiola at City, Barker could see a move back to Deepdale as the ideal opportunity to get minutes under the belt and consistent game time.

Preston are keen on strengthening the squad with the fee they received for Robinson, and adding goals and pace to the team will be top of the agenda for Alex Neil, given that is exactly what he is losing with the departure of Robinson.

Barker has yet to make an impact at City and has seen loan spells with the likes Rotherham United and NAC Breda fail to yield the sort of success Barker and City might have hoped for.

The Verdict

This might be just the right move for both club and player, with Barker at the stage of his career where he simply has to get motoring.

He’s a player with obvious ability but he’s never going to make the grade at City with all their talent and class, and so a move on loan or even permanently would be of benefit to Barker.

Preston on the other hand need replacements for Robinson. He’s too important to simply ignore and Barker might well prove a useful replacement of sorts for the Irish forward.
