Preston North End are reportedly set to open talks over new deals for four of their out-of-contract players, including Celtic target Ben Davies.

The Scottish club were linked with the defender during the summer window but it is understood they didn't make a bid, with the only offer tabled for the 25-year-old coming from Bournemouth.

However, reports have suggested that Davies could be set to sign a pre-contract with Celtic in January.

It appears Preston keen to ensure that doesn't happen as the Lancashire Evening Post has reported that he is one of four players they're set to open contract negotiations with.

Davies, Daniel Johnson, Ben Pearson, and Alan Browne are all out of contract at the end of the season – meaning all four could leave for free next summer or sign a pre-contract with another club in January.

All four players are key men in Alex Neil's squad, so the North West club will be hoping for some success in the upcoming negotiations.

Preston have had a difficult start to the season and are 18th as things stand, with just one win from their first five Championship games.

The Verdict

Preston fans will be relieved to hear that the club are being proactive as they look to secure the future of four important players.

Should Davies agree to a new deal it will be a blow for Celtic, who will be licking their lips at the prospect of signing the 25-year-old on a pre-contract.

Premier League clubs have been linked with an interest in the past, so it would be frustrating for Preston if they lose the player and are unable to cash in.
