Preston North End are set to make a move for Oxford United midfielder Ryan Ledson this summer, according to a reliable football journalist on Twitter.
Alan Nixon is reporting that Preston will reignite their interest in Ledson and try to snap up the exciting young talent for next season.
The 20-year-old is a regular in Oxford’s side despite his young age after choosing to turn down a new contract at Everton and leave to play first team football in 2016.
Ledson has now played 80 senior matches for the U’s, establishing himself as one of the finest midfielders in the third tier of English football.
In the January transfer window, Preston were said to be very keen on the England youth international, who has previously attracted interest from some Premier League clubs, such as West Ham United.
Ledson remained at Oxford but could leave in the summer with Championship interest in his services.
Preston are hoping to win the race for the central midfielder, who has scored three goals in 48 appearances this term for Oxford United.
Ledson has one year remaining on his contract at The Kassam Stadium, having signed a three year deal back in 2016, so Preston could try to sign him on the cheap.
Ledson would be a fantastic signing for Preston. The youngster is already prepared to make the step up to Championship football and, at the age of just 20, he is certainly far from the finished article. Ledson could still reach the very top level so Preston have a top player for the future with sell-on value too.
