Former Leeds United midfielder Fabian Delph has hailed the club’s current form after a blistering start to the new season - and tips them for promotion.

Since the arrival of Marcelo Bielsa, the Championship side have remained unbeaten in the league and are currently atop the summit of the division.

The Argentine coach has introduced a high-pressing, high-tempo style of football that is paying dividends at this current time.

Delph was at Leeds for seven years before a move to Aston Villa in 2009 where he would go on to have relative success.

A short loan back to his former club in 2012 came about before an £8million move to Manchester City occured.

Now a Premier League winner at the Etihad Stadium and England international, Delph had his say on the current crop of Elland Road talent after their sensational start to life under Bielsa.

Talking on talkSPORT, he said “I’ve been really impressed with the way they are playing.

“The fans there are absolutely incredible, so if you’ve got a team doing well with fans like that behind you, it’s going to give you that extra push.

“I’m quietly confident Leeds will go up.”

The Verdict

A voice like Fabian Delph’s carries weight when Leeds is spoken about having been a standout youngster at the club before a move to the Premier League.

He knows the club, and if he is impressed, then there are some seriously good things happening at Elland Road at present.

Leeds have had a supreme start to the new Championship season, but it remains to be seen if it can be maintained during the harsh winter months.

It will be interesting to revisit his statement that he thinks his former side will go up later on in the season and see his thoughts on the club at that point in the future.

All in all, it has been a significantly positive start to life at Leeds for Marcelo Bielsa, and the fans are buying into his brand of football and teams tactics.
