The Clarets have a strong history in developing quality strikers, most recently the likes of Charlie Austin and Danny Ings, and spent the compensation they received from Ings' move to Liverpool on signing Andre Gray over the summer for £9 million.

He had a fine season last year with Brentford, scoring 18 goals in his first season for the club, before joining relegated Burnley, where he tops the Championship top goalscoring chart with eleven strikes this year in just 14 Championship appearances.

He's now attracted the interest of a number of Premier League sides. The top-flight has been alerted by Dele Alli's stunning emergence from the Football League to the English national team, and each club is on the hunt for English talent to replicate his progress.

Gray is just a number of English players being touted by Premier League scouts as ready for the top division, although Burnley will be reluctant to selling him just six months after he joined.

They might have a saving grace though, as FIFA rules state that you cannot play for more than two clubs in one season.

Gray appeared twice for Brentford at the start of the season before moving to Turf Moor, so it seems likely that any move will have to wait until the summer, by which time Gray may have helped fire Burnley back to the Premier League.
