Lee Ryder, a journalist from the Newcastle Chronicle, has revealed that Newcastle United's interest in Norwich City winger Jacob Murphy is ongoing.

Reports had been circulating that the Magpies had prepared a £10m bid for Liverpool youngster Sheyi Ojo, which led some to the conclusion that their interest in long-standing target Murphy was on the wane.

However, Ryder has stated that reports of a £10m bid by Rafael Benitez to his former club for the England Under 20 World Cup winner are false, and as a consequence, their interest in England Under 21 starlet Murphy was still very much alive.

The news will also be a welcome boost to second tier clubs with an interest in Ojo's future.

Middlesbrough are thought to lead the chase for Ojo, with a loan deal the most likely route for Garry Monk's men, with Jurgen Klopp reportedly keen for the winger to head to the Riverside Stadium.

22-year-old Murphy was a part of the England Under 21 squad who made the semi finals of this summer's UEFA Under 21 European Championships in Poland, where they were eliminated by eventual winners Germany via a penalty shoot-out after a 2-2 draw.

Norwich manager Daniel Farke has indicated that flying winger Murphy is part of the his plans for the forthcoming campaign, but the report also claims that Murphy has told his agent he wants to join the Magpies in the Premier League.

Newcastle reportedly increased their bid for the flying winger to £10m over the weekend, and look as if they are not willing to give up on the England Under 21 star just yet.
