Everton forward Oumar Niasse isn’t keen on dropping into the Championship this January, despite reports suggesting that Leeds United had been offered the chance to sign the 29-year-old.

Leeds are on the lookout for a striker to come into Marcelo Bielsa’s squad and replace Eddie Nketiah, who was recalled by Arsenal earlier this month due to a lack of playing time at Elland Road.

Football Insider reported that Leeds were offered the chance to sign Niasse, given his limited role at Everton.

So far this season, the striker has made only two Premier League appearances, with a further two outings coming in the Football League Trophy.

In his senior career at Goodison Park, Niasse has scored eight Premier League goals in 34 appearances, whilst also spending time out on loan.

Both Hull City and Cardiff City have had Niasse on loan in recent years, with the Senegal international scoring four goals for the former, but failing to find the back of the net with the Bluebirds.

However, according to TEAMtalk, Niasse isn’t keen on stepping down into the Championship with Leeds, seemingly ruling out a move to Elland Road this January.

Currently, Leeds have only Patrick Bamford as a recognised striker on the books.

The Verdict

Whether Niasse was a genuine target for Leeds, or he was just offered to them, it is frustrating to know that forwards are so hard to come by this month.

Nketiah needs replacing, with Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Queens Park Rangers underlining why Leeds need an alternative to Bamford.

If it isn’t Niasse, it has to be someone else, and Leeds have to move quickly, with 11 days separating them and deadline-day.
