Brighton, Bournemouth and Southampton are all interested in a move for Middlesbrough midfielder Lewis Wing in the summer transfer window, a report from TeamTalk has claimed.
Wing has scored six goals and provided one assist in 30 league appearances for Jonathan Woodgate’s side this season, and it seems those performances have attracted the attention of a number of sides further up the footballing pyramid.
According to the latest reports, the top-flight trio are all considering moves for the 24-year-old in the summer, having taken an interest in Wing this season.
It is thought that although ‘Boro would be reluctant to lose Wing this summer, their hand could be forced if a sizeable bid is made for the midfielder.
Since joining ‘Boro from non-league side Shildon in the summer of 2017, Wing has gone on to make a total of 67 appearances in all competitions for the Championship side, scoring 11 goals altogether.
There are currently two-and-a-half years remaining on Wing’s contract with Middlesbrough, securing his future at the Riverside Stadium until the end of the 2021/22 season.
This could be a decent signing for one of these Premier League teams.
Wing does seem to have been one of the brighter sparks in a largely difficult season for ‘Boro, which does suggest he has the potential to step further up the divisions at some point in his career.
That is something the likes of Brighton, Bournemouth and Southampton could look to exploit sooner rather than later, before a side further up the table potentially decide to swoop for Wing at some point further down the line.
However, with so long remaining on the midfielder’s contract at Middlesbrough, they are in a strong position to negotiate any approach for the player, meaning it could take a big bid to secure his services this summer, and it will be interesting to see if any of these sides are willing to make one of those.
