Leeds United's Callum Nicell is training with Leicester City ahead of a possible move to the Premier League side.

The 19-year-old midfielder is one of many highly-rated players coming through the ranks at Thorp Arch but it appears as though he doesn't have a long-term future at Elland Road.

That's because Football Insider have revealed that Nicell featured for a Foxes XI on Friday night as they played Hednesford Town in a friendly after Leeds gave the Irish youngster permission to go for a trial with the east Midlands outfit.

Nicell played his part in Carlos Corberan's successful U23 side last season that won the Professional Development League 2 title, however unlike some of his teammates, he has failed to make the step up to the senior side.

Marcelo Bielsa has shown since taking over at the Championship club that he is prepared to lean on the U23 team to help the first-team but opportunities have been limited for Nicell.

The report does not mention what sort of fee the player would command but the teenager is entering the final year of his contract so it's unlikely to be much.

The Verdict

It seems strange that Leeds would be willing to let a player go who has Premier League suitors but that's what's happening in this instance.

Clearly, the Whites don't feel Nicell can continue to progress in the way they want and Leicester obviously see something in the midfielder that Leeds don't right now.

But, that's football and you would have to say that a move to the Foxes would be a great opportunity for Nicell.

Whilst some Leeds fans may question this, the reality is that the club are doing a lot right in terms of the academy, so this decision should be supported.
