Wolverhampton Wanderers could be set to firm up their interest in Middlesbrough star Adama Traore, according to reports.

According to The Independent, Wolves are considering triggering Traore's £18m release clause as they grow concerned that Huddersfield Town might beat them in this race.

Traore lit up the Championship last season with some scintillating performances from the wing, scoring five goals and providing 10 assists for team-mates to help his side reach the play-off semi-finals.

Middlesbrough want to keep the 22-year-old this summer but they are powerless to prevent him from moving if a club matches his £18m release clause.

The former Barcelona man joined Middlesbrough from Aston Villa two years ago and has never scored a Premier League goal in three top flight seasons, with just two assists to his name as well.

But after improving his end product last year, Wolves might be convinced to take a punt on the Spain youth international, who operates primarily as a right-winger.

Wolves and Huddersfield are now set to scrap this one out with Nuno Espirito Santo mulling over an £18m swoop to ensure that his side wins the race for Traore.

The Verdict

Traore showed last season that he can add goals and assists to his game.

With tremendous skill, blistering pace and impressive strength, £18m could be a long-term shrewd investment for Wolves.

Boro would need to replace his creativity but they would be armed with enough cash to find an adequate replacement.
