Brentford are to launch a £14 million bid for Nottingham Forest winger Brennan Johnson, according to The Sun

The Welsh international has been subject to plenty of transfer speculation after a string of impressive performances this season with the Bees continuing to be front of the queue.

The Sun's Alan Nixon reported that the London side will return for the winger with an eight-figure bid in January after Thomas Frank's side failed to lure him to the Brentford Community Stadium in the summer.

And as per John Percy of The Telegraph, a £10 million bid last week was turned down for Johnson and that is why Brentford are set to come in with a bigger one.

However, as per Nixon, Forest see Johnson as a key player as they chase promotion and are content to risk keeping him at the City Ground until the summer with the youngster then entering the final year of his contract.

Forest are currently one point adrift of the play-off places going into the Boxing Day fixtures following a resurgence in form under Steve Cooper.

Johnson has played a key role under Cooper and has continued to link up effectively with Lewis Grabban and Philip Zinckernagel, notching five goals so far in the Championship campaign.

The Verdict

Brennan Johnson has been in scintillating form for Nottingham Forest this season and has arguably been their most consistent attacking player so far.

With the form under manager Steve Cooper drastically improving to the extent of a potential promotion push, it's no surprise to see Forest hold onto their star forward.

However, with Johnson's contract expiring at the end of the 22/23 season, that could sway Forest to sell in January for the highest fee possible as that valuation will most certainly drop come the summer.
