Wolves are plotting another move to sign Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips when the transfer window reopens this summer, a report from Football Insider has claimed.

The Molineux club were reportedly one of several top-flight sides who tried and failed to prise Phillips away from Elland Road last summer, and it seems they are planning to make a similar attempt again 12 months on.

According to the latest reports, Wolves are set to monitor the progress of Phillips throughout the rest of the campaign as they consider a summer move for the 24-year-old, as they look to add to their defensive midfield options.

It is thought that Wolves are aware that any hope they have of securing a deal for Phillips will depend on Leeds failing to win promotion to the Premier League this season, but with a run of four defeats from their last five games seeing the Elland Road club's advantage over the play-off places all but evaporate, it seems there is now a possibility that could happen.

Phillips only signed a five-year contract with Leeds back in September, but it has been claimed that there is a clause in that deal that will allow clubs to buy the midfielder for between £20-25million if the Yorkshire club do not reach the Premier League this season.

A graduate of Leeds' academy, Phillips has made a total of 171 appearances in all competitions for the club since his debut in 2014, scoring 11 goals.

The Verdict

This will be a big concern for Leeds, not least because of the timing of it.

With their recent poor run putting them bang under pressure in the race for promotion, this is the sort of distraction Marcelo Bielsa's side could well do without.

Indeed, with Phillips now available again after suspension for his side's crucial trip to promotion rivals Brentford on Tuesday night, those around the club will surely want him fully-focused on that as they search for a return to form.

But with Leeds' own promotion credentials being called into question recently, you could understand if thoughts of a move elsewhere in search of Premier League football were creeping into the back of Phillips' mind slightly, with Wolves' a particularly attractive option given their size, setup, and recent success.
