Hull City have rejected a bid from Burnley for Sam Clucas, according to a report by HITC Sport.

HITC sources understand that Hull City have knocked back a £7m offer for Sam Clucas.

Burnley are trying to poach the versatile midfielder after Hull were relegated to the Championship but the Tigers remain determined to keep him.

Sam Clucas was one of the standout performers for Hull in the top flight last year as they finished 18th and were consigned to the drop.

Burnley are looking at midfield targets and Clucas fits the bill as he is comfortable playing both attacking and defensive roles, as well as central and wide roles.

Newcastle United are also interested in the 26-year-old, who has two years left on his contract at the KCOM Stadium.

Since joining Hull from Chesterfield in 2015, Sam Clucas has made just shy of 100 appearances for the club, scoring nine goals in that time.

Sam Clucas is reportedly keen on moving back to the Premier League so Hull City face a battle to fend off the likes of Burnley and Newcastle.

Burnley have a large war chest to spend on players after selling Andre Gray to Watford.

The Verdict

If the transfer window slams shut and Sam Clucas is still a Hull City player, then Leonid Slutsky's side have done tremendously well.

Clucas is undoubtedly a player of Premier League quality and his influence at Hull cannot be understated.

Providing versatility, quality on the ball and a commendable work ethic, Sam Clucas would be a perfect fit for Burnley or Newcastle so Hull need to stand firm and try to keep the 26-year-old at the KCOM Stadium.
