Speaking to the Monday Night Club on BBC Radio Five Live, Charlie Adam has praised Garry Monk for the “incredible job” he has done with Leeds United.

Few would have predicted Monk to make it to this stage of the season, after a poor start in the Sky Bet Championship and Leeds’ owner, Massimo Cellino, known for his ruthless streak with managers.

However, the 38-year old has turned Leeds’ season around and has the Whites challenging for a Premier League return for the first time since 2004.

Adam, who plays in the top-flight for Stoke City, praised Monk for his work at Elland Road this season, before admitting he would like to see the club promoted, he said: “Garry Monk has done an incredible job there and I would love to see them come up.

“For Leeds, Elland Road, the crowd, the fans, it would be amazing to go there and play I would like to see them come up.

“For the problems, they have had over the last five, six years with the owner, for Garry Monk to go in there and settling the owner down, stopping that sacking he was doing, it’s a testament to the job he has done.”

Monk’s side are currently fifth in the Championship table and are looking to secure their place in the end of season Play-Offs.

The Whites are currently five-points clear of seventh-placed Fulham, and with just five fixtures of the season remaining, the club are on the verge of their first top-six finish in the Championship since 2006.

Leeds face title-chasing Newcastle United on Friday evening, where Monk’s side arguably face their toughest test of the season to date.
