Bournemouth defender Steve Cook has made a sly dig at a Leeds United supporter who replied to the Premier League player on Twitter.

The Whites supporter replied to Cook's original tweet saying '150 Premier League games and never heard of you' before the 28-year-old sent back a message that sent Twitter crazy.

Cook replied 'Maybe because Leeds haven't been there for a while?'. The Cherries centre-half has seen himself receive over 20,000 likes on the social media platform with many supporters of other Championship clubs finding it rather humorous.

Leeds United are hoping to return to the top flight this season. Under Marcelo Bielsa, the Whites were ever so close to earning promotion last season but failed at the last hurdle for both automatic promotion and in the play-offs.

The Whites were last in the Premier League 15 years ago back in 2004, and the longer the wait goes on, the more supporters will begin to lose hope that it could happen again.

The Verdict

It's set to be an interesting season for Leeds, who currently sit in the top two of the Championship. It's so vital that they get promotion over the next few seasons otherwise comments such as this one will continue to be around and haunt them.

Many say that they live in the past so it's time for them to rectify that, and make sure that they can start writing their own future once again.

Bielsa's side were agonisingly close to going up last season, and if they can find that crucial consistency this campaign then they can shut up players such as Cook who have offered criticism.
